Why Take a Film Acting Class?
“In college, I took an acting class as a lark. I was surprised by how much it interested me. It seemed like something I could do my whole life and always try to get better at.” -Ebon Moss-Bachrach
If you’re in the Baton Rouge area and if you’ve ever wondered if a film acting class is for you, here is who would benefit from an acting class:
-actors wanting to develop their skills
-people who love movies and who would love to explore acting on camera
-people who have always dreamed of being in a movie but maybe had another career path they went down and are now potentially looking into trying to act in film or tv
-people who are looking to retire but feel they would still want to do something creative with their lives and have a lot more to give
-people who have theater backgrounds who have always wanted to try acting for the camera
It’s never too late with film acting; you can start at any age. It’s different than theater acting because the schedule is not as rigorous in most cases. The filming schedules are lighter than theater rehearsals (think three weeks versus three months, for instance). Also to audition for film these days you don’t have to leave your home, you can audition online. When one of my hilarious, beautiful friends asked if it was too late for her to start taking classes at 40, I laughed and said no it’s never too late because there are so many actors who were discovered in their 40s and 50s.
It’s so fun to work on a film scene from a movie that you love in an acting class. It’s also fun to play characters that are different than yourself and explore emotions that maybe you’ve never given yourself the permission to explore. Film acting can appeal to introverts and extroverts alike because the camera sees all and there’s no need to be an extroverted person in order to portray a character. Film acting is all about nuance and creating imaginary circumstances in which you fully live truthfully in. Film acting is a diverse craft that’s inclusive to all that want to try it.
